Barton County Poets and Writers is a cooperative creative literary community based in Lamar, Missouri, bringing together poets and authors throughout Barton County, in the towns of Boston, Burgess, Golden City, Iantha, Irwin, Kenoma, Lamar, Lamar Heights, Liberal, Milford, Mindenmines, Nashville, and all the unincorporated rolling Prairie in between.
The Mission of Barton County Poets and Writers is to connect creative writers working across a wide spectrum of literary genres and styles in a cooperative spirit of mutual support and artistic encouragement, as well as to promote the appreciation of Barton County authors and their work here at home and around the world. We accomplish these goals through the promotion of publishing projects, as well as through the development of classes in Creative Writing and other topics of interest to writers, the organization of “writer’s circles” (small, locally-centered writer’s support/critique groups), and the use of this website as a hub for sharing news, ideas, and the experience and expertise of BCPaW members throughout the county. We promote live (and lively!) public readings of work by both local and visiting poets and authors, the production of plays by local playwrights, etc., and work tirelessly to ensure that the diversity of literary voices that call Barton County home are heard and appreciated – locally, statewide, nationally and around the world.
If you haven’t already joined our BCWaP e-mail notification list, now would be a good time to do so! Exciting times lie ahead – don’t miss out!
Barton County Poets and Writers is the emerging literary wing of The Arts Council of Barton County, an incorporated not-for-profit organization promoting every dimension of the arts in Barton County, from painting, to photography, to music, to dance, to theatre and beyond. You can visit the ACBC website at www.artscouncilofbartoncounty.wordpress.com.
NOTE: Paid membership in The Arts Council of Barton County IS NOT required in order to become a member of Barton County Poets and Writers, to be on the BCPaW e-mail notification list, or to participate in BCPaW activities or projects. Of course we always hope your enjoyment of this literary community will spill over into a greater appreciation and support for the arts in general, and a desire to join the Arts Council in particular, but that will always remain your decision. As a member of the BCPaW e-mail list, you may occasionally receive solicitations to become a paid Arts Council of Barton County member, but you are always free to say “no,” without fear of reciprocity. Whatever your other affiliations, you can rest assured that you will always be treated as an equal and valued member of this literary community.
